February is Friendship Month!

February is a sweet month filled with love and candy! Since love is in the air, we will be celebrating "Friendship" in our class. We have had discussions about what makes a good friend. We have been talking about feelings and how to avoid hurting the feelings of others. We have all decided as a class, that everyone is much happier when everyone is kind. We learned that sometimes people can say or do things that hurt feelings. We decided the best thing to do is try to talk it out. If that does not work, we can simply just walk away or tell someone. We learned that we are much happier as a team and we will work hard to build our friendships through understanding and problem solving.

Teaching kindness, empathy and respect  can be done! It can be done through creating scenarios through Role-play with your child, creating positive conversations with your children, modeling kindness, rewarding kind acts through positive verbal reinforcement and acknowledgement, and of course through literature. Sometimes the words used can hurt other without knowing. Simply replace the words with kinder words. Remember...friendship is contagious!
